We are seeking a Human Resources Director for the Canada Division. This position will be based in our Toronto office. This role reports to the Vice President of the North Division and has dotted line reporting to the Vice President of the Canada Division. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

Position Description:

The Director of Human Resources is a seasoned Business Partner role that provides HR leadership across all lines of business within the Canada Division. This position is responsible for working collaboratively to drive business performance by providing strategic direction, coaching and development to senior operations leaders on all people matters. The successful candidate will partner with operations leadership to deliver initiatives that strengthen organizational capabilities in talent management, leadership development, organizational design, culture, engagement, change management training and employee relations. 

As a member of Canada’s senior HR leadership team, the Human Resources Director is responsible for driving HR transformation and Centre of Excellence initiatives. This role requires a proven ability to develop and articulate clear and compelling HR strategies in a performance driven culture. Strong organizational and influencing skills are necessary, to effectively translate these strategies into actionable initiatives that can be implemented across many Provinces. The successful candidate will be a natural leader, contemporary thinker with high energy, who can influence, inspire and motivate others. 

Scope: 

  • Target Salary Range: Base: $100,000-$140,000; Bonus: 25%
  • Revenue of Business: $200M
  • Region/Territory: Canada Division is comprised of 21 branches throughout 6 Canadian Provinces including Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, British      Columbia and Alberta. The position is located in Toronto.
  • Supervise HR Generalist located in Montreal.
  • Headcount: 200+ employees
  • Branch structure includes the following: Branch Manager, Assistant Branch Manager, Inside and Outside Sales, Dispatch/ Warehouse Manager, Drivers      and Helpers.
  • Fleet      is a combination of tractors/trailers; flatbeds with mounted forklifts; conveyors; knuckle-boom cranes.
     

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Ensures that Human Resources services are provided efficiently with other departments. This includes but not limited to: serving as an employee counselor for any or all areas of performance management, employee relations, performance improvement planning and monitoring, terminations, employee awards, payroll, attendance and other related services.
  • Coach, and develop leader capability on employee relations, performance management, goal planning and engagement.
  • Partner with management to ensure that annual performance evaluations are completed in a timely manner and are used to increase employee morale, productivity and development with specific measurable goals identified and a clear plan outlined and communicated.
  • Support the annual compensation process including merit increases, performance bonuses and equity awards.
  • Educate leaders and build process that ensures policy and legislative compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, insurance obligations and by-law requirements.
  • Conduct evaluations of new or revised Human Resources related policies, procedures and regulations and the application/adoption in the various provinces.
  • Oversees Talent Acquisition activity, supporting recruitment initiatives and ensuring a strong talent pipeline.
  • Ensures all department communication is streamlined, consistent and aligned to organizational goals.
  • Make contribution to enterprise culture building and employee engagement.
  • Manage highly sensitive and confidential information daily.
  • Work as a team player. 

The Ideal Candidate: 

  • Minimum 7 years of human resources management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Human Resources related field with advanced academic and professional training preferred.
  • Must be bilingual: English and French
  • Must possess strong knowledge of Canadian employment law.
  • Strong diagnostic skills followed by good ability to evaluate options/alternatives and develop recommendations for solutions to complex and multi-dimensional issues.
  • Adept at building and managing relationships effectively and able to gain the confidence of business leaders quickly.
  • Ability to influence, lead change and role model our Beacon values and positive behaviors that drive business performance.
  • Proven leadership success within a top-tier Human Resources function in a complex organization with multiple markets and multi-site responsibility.
  • Strong influencing and coaching skills. Proven experience in developing and coaching a team.
  • Strong business acumen and analytical mindset with the ability to lead, implement, and facilitate change.
  • Ability to be effective in a highly matrixed environment, to effectively communicate with and influence all levels of the organization and drive change.
  • Tenacity, resourceful, flexible and adaptable.
  • Must be able to think and act strategically, but also be willing to “roll up sleeves" for all HR functions.
  • Willing to travel at least 50%.
